Barcelona Becomes First Club To Surpass $1B In Revenue

barcelona

Barcelona on Tuesday presented its annual accounts for the '17-18 season and the budget for '18-19. The club posted revenue of $1.05B for the year ending on June 30, becoming the first sports club in the world to surpass the $1B mark in revenue. The team's '18-19 budget foresees revenue of $1.1B (Barcelona). The AP reported Barcelona said that this is "the eighth straight year it has closed with a profit," with accumulated gains of €188M ($217M) since '10. It is "the fifth consecutive year the club has broken its own record income." One of "the main reasons for the increase in revenue was the new cycle for distribution of UEFA payments for the Champions League," Barcelona said. Last month, Real Madrid said that its operating revenue for '17-18 reached €750.9M (AP, 10/2). In Madrid, Xavi Hernández reported Barcelona reduced its salary budget by 5% and CEO Oscar Grau said that he does not "foresee any new signings in the winter transfer market." Grau: "We will think about selling and getting the expected price for players that can be very good for other teams. This budget does not include any winter signing, but if the coach asks for someone, solutions can be found within sustainable criteria" (MARCA, 10/2).
