Liverpool supporters were "warned not to use public transport to get to Napoli's Stadio San Paolo" for Wednesday's Champions League group game and advised that they will be "forced to remove belts before entering the stadium." Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country was "able to evade the cost" of staging Euro 2024 as UEFA voted for Germany to host the competition. Erdogan: "I will speak openly. I did not care about it. It always happens this way. You give two World Cups and take one World Cup. You do it in the same country. ... Good luck with it. As a result we evaded the expense" (HURRIYET DAILY NEWS, 10/1).
World Shooting Para Sport is bringing back the European Championships, with Belgrade, Serbia, to host the '18 edition from Dec. 1-7. The competition will be the first European Championship since Alicante, Spain, hosted in '13. Held in conjunction with the Int'l Shooting Sport Federation's Grand Prix event, the competition will feature only 10m air events (P1, P2, R1-5) (IPC).
A spectator hit by a Brooks Koepka tee shot at the Ryder Cup reportedly said that she "lost sight in her right eye and is considering legal action." The incident happened on the opening day of the event when the American's drive on the par-four sixth hole "veered off course," striking 49-year-old Corine Remande. She said that the reason for legal action is "to help cover medical bills" (BBC, 10/2).
The Katowice, Poland City Council voted in favor of an act that declares the city's willingness to "co-organize and promote" the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. IEM Katowice, a multi-game event operated by ESL, began in '14. It has since grown into "one of the largest third-party tournaments of the year." Katowice's current deal with ESL ends after the '19 event (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 10/1).
