Football Notes: UEFA To Use VAR In Champions League From '19-20

UEFA announced video assistant referees will be used in the Champions League from the '19-20 season. VAR will also be used in the 2019 Super Cup, Euro 2020 and 2021 Nations League, as well as in the Europa League from '20-21. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said that the governing body is "confident" it will have time "to put in place a robust system" (BBC, 9/27).

The Scottish Professional Football League will meet representatives of all League Cup semifinalists and the police "in a bid to find a solution to where the matches should be held." Heart of Midlothian will play Celtic and Rangers will face Aberdeen. The games were scheduled for Hampden on Oct. 27 and 28, but Celtic and Rangers have Europa League games on Oct. 25 (BBC, 9/27).

An expert will be commissioned to "review policing at football matches in Scotland." The move was confirmed at a Scottish Police Authority meeting in response to a "crush" at Celtic Park on Sept. 2 that resulted in one supporter being taken to the hospital. Deputy Chief Constable Will Kerr told the Scottish Police Authority that the appointment of the expert who will head the review will be finalized "soon" (BBC, 9/27).
