Football Notes: Russia To Consider Visa-Free Entry Bill For Euro 2020

The Russian State Duma will review a bill proposed by the government to "allow visa-free entry for football fans attending Euro 2020 matches." The document, which was published on the government's website on Tuesday, contained measures introduced by Russian ministers as part of the country's preparations to host Euro 2020 matches in St. Petersburg. It is "expected that the innovative FAN ID system which was successfully used" at the World Cup will be implemented again (RT, 9/25).

Real Madrid will "include an esports competition space" in its redesigned Santiago Bernabéu. An official concept video shows a space in the stadium with two esports teams playing in front of monitors, "complete with large screens behind them that show gameplay and team imagery" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 9/24).

The first woman to head one of English football's leading organizations said that "she wants to see female coaches take significant roles in the men's game." English Football League interim Chair Debbie Jevans said that women coaches are as "tactically adept" as their male counterparts. Jevans added that she "could foresee a time where women coaches were employed by men's teams," and pointed to the "success enjoyed by Andy Murray" during the two years that he was coached by Amélie Mauresmo (LONDON TIMES, 9/25).

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Serie A side Lazio must pay Eredivisie club Feyenoord more than €1M ($1.18M) for Stefan de Vrij after being "scammed out" of the final €2M ($2.35M) installment. Lazio signed the defender in the summer of '14, but was sent a fake email demanding the €2M payment and "sent the money to the wrong bank account." It was only later that the club discovered Feyenoord had not received the funds (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 9/25).
