League Notes: L.A. Kings Launch Beijing Jr. Kings

The NHL L.A. Kings and the league are strengthening their presence in China and expanding their relationship with Beijing-based ORG Packaging with the launch of Beijing Jr. Kings. The agreement, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, makes the Beijing Jr. Kings the first youth hockey development program created, owned and operated by the L.A. Kings outside L.A. and the first development initiative for any NHL team in China (L.A. Kings).

World Rugby "called for a greater consistency from referees when they hand out red cards" but will not ask officials to show "too much leniency," CEO Brett Gosper said on Sunday. A "crackdown on head-high tackles has seen a surge in dismissals but opinions have been split" on whether the punishments were "often too harsh." Gosper: "We’ve got to work on our consistency but at the end of the day, we’re trying to change player behavior and we’re trying to do that in the best way we can, and cards are the best way to change player behavior" (REUTERS, 9/23).

GolfNow announced its expansion into France -- its first entree into continental Europe -- via agreements with two of the country’s leading multi-course management companies. The arrangement provides golfers residing throughout GolfNow’s footprint -- including the U.S., U.K., Ireland and Australia -- with the ability to book tee times on GolfNow at nearly 50 golf courses throughout France (Golf Channel).
