League Notes: County Championship Set To Expand Top Division

Division One of the County Championship is set to expand to 10 teams in '20. Three sides would be promoted from Division Two at the end of next season and "just one would be relegated." The England & Wales Cricket Board's working group, chaired by Leicestershire CEO Wasim Khan, recommended that the championship should continue in a two-division format with promotion and relegation. The board of directors approved the changes in principle on Wednesday, although they still need to be agreed by county chairs next week (LONDON TIMES, 9/20).

Sporting Integrity Head Michele Verroken, who previously served as head of UK Sport's anti-doping unit, warned that "fighters are being seriously endangered unless steps are undertaken to clamp down on the use of illegal drugs within the sport." Boxing has been criticized for a "muddled policy on doping." Verroken warned that the "lack of clarity around sanctions is putting boxers' health in jeopardy and also risking a raft of legal suits being filed by fighters injured by opponents later proven to have doped" (London TELEGRAPH, 9/19).

Organizers of the T10 League are "expanding plans for their second season," despite the resignation of the competition's president and a reported investigation into the title sponsor. Former T10 President and part-Owner Salman Iqbal stepped down on Wednesday, citing a "lack of transparency, unprofessionalism" and a lack of structure for his decision. It was also reported that Heera, T10's major sponsor, is "under investigation by the ministry of corporate affairs for an alleged Ponzi scheme" (THE NATIONAL, 9/20).
