League Notes: ECB Begins Trials Of New Hundred Format

The England & Wales Cricket Board began trials of its new Hundred format at Trent Bridge last weekend, with two matches played between players from most of the 18 first-class counties. Each county was "asked to find players who could take part in the trial matches," which are due to continue through Tuesday, and each player is being paid £100 ($132) a day before tax, plus expenses. One of the primary aims of the pilot matches "is to time how long it takes to bowl 100 balls." The ECB's aim is to have the matches played in under two-and-a-half hours (LONDON TIMES, 9/17).

Sri Lanka Cricket's anti-corruption unit detained five Indian spectators on suspicion of match-fixing during Sunday's third and final women's ODI between Sri Lanka and India. The five were "initially asked to leave the ground at Katunayake" and later detained by police for investigations, an official said (AFP, 9/16).
