FIFA Publishes First Report On Int'l Women's Transfers

For the first time, FIFA presented official information on int'l transfers of female professional players in a report titled "Women's Transfers in Int'l Transfer Matching System." The key statistics on global transfer activity from Jan. 1-Sept. 1 include:

• 577 int'l transfers of professional female players were completed around the world, with about $500,000 spent on transfer fees.
• 198 clubs and 65 FIFA member associations were "actively involved" in int'l transfers, "the majority of them in UEFA."
• Players from the U.S. "were involved in almost twice as many transfers as those of any other nationality."
• Trends in transfer streams "show where women's football is more developed and also indicate that transfers tend to be affected by the timing of domestic competitions" (FIFA).
