Football Notes: Real Madrid Coach Speaks Out Against Match In Miami

Julen Lopetegui thinks a U.S. game would diminish La Liga's equality.GETTY IMAGES

Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui believes staging Girona's home game against Barcelona in the U.S. "would harm the equality of La Liga." He said, "I'm not in favor of it. ... I think we should all play in the same conditions, on the same pitches -- that's what makes the league equal" (AFP, 9/14).

Ligue 1 side Amiens and Ligue 2 side Lens "successfully" trialed standing sections, "which had been prohibited for the last 25 years." Lens' match against Sochaux and Amiens' match against Lille both took place on Saturday (EFE, 9/16).

The Premier League held talks last week on a "possible ban on clubs paying agents." After a summer of "market frustration," Middlesbrough is "part of a growing group of clubs" that wants the League Championship to follow suit. The club's hierarchy believes it is "time to curb agents who ask for last gasp payments after everything is agreed" (TEESSIDE LIVE, 9/16).
