Franchise Notes: Palermo Still Aiming To Be Included In Serie A

Maurizio Zamparini: "We'll ask for the league to be stopped and Palermo readmitted. It's justice."GETTY IMAGES

Serie B side Palermo Owner Maurizio Zamparini "has not given up hope of getting his club admitted to Serie A this season" and warned the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) that he will seek "at least €50 million ($58.4M) in damages" if he is denied. Frosinone beat Palermo 3-2 on aggregate in last season's Serie B playoff final but the second leg was "overshadowed by controversy," with Frosinone emerging a 2-0 winner "but subsequently given a two-match stadium ban for disrupting the game by throwing balls onto the pitch" (London INDEPENDENT, 9/13).

Serie A side Chievo was deducted three points and club President Luca Campedelli was banned for three months after the FIGC found the club "guilty of accounting irregularities." The FIGC said in a statement that its disciplinary tribunal found that Chievo "inflated the value of some transfer dealings with Cesena," a club which played in Serie B last season (REUTERS, 9/13).

National Rugby League side South Sydney Rabbitohs is investigating a woman's claims that a Facebook video chat with several high-profile players "turned lewd without her consent -- with two stars exposing their private parts." A club spokesperson on Wednesday confirmed the 23-year-old sent an email the day after the May 26 incident (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 9/13).
