La Liga Submits Proposal For Miami Match To Spanish Federation

La Liga made a formal request to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for Girona's home league game against Barcelona to be staged at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on January 26, according to Adriana Garcia of ESPN.com. The document was signed by La Liga President Javier Tebas, Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Girona President Delfi Geli. The plan for a regular-season game to be played overseas "has been controversial and requires approval of the RFEF" as well as Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD), UEFA, U.S. Soccer and CONCACAF (ESPN.com, 9/11). In London, Murad Ahmed reported it is "unclear" whether the RFEF will agree to the project, with its president, Luis Rubiales, having previously accused La Liga President Javier Tebas of "a total lack of respect" for not holding talks with Spanish football authorities before signing the deal with Relevent (FINANCIAL TIMES, 9/11).
