Tredegar RFC Could Fold Over Dispute With Welsh Rugby Union

One of Welsh rugby's "famous old clubs" fears it "could be closed down following a row" with the Welsh Rugby Union over a "historic debt," according to Anthony Woolford of WALES ONLINE. Tredegar RFC had to cancel its opening two games in Division Three East C over claims the WRU is "refusing to insure" its players and grant its "affiliation to play in the National League structure." Tredegar alleges "the dispute is over money owed to the Union from a previous company in charge of the club." Club Chair Tony Preece claims the WRU wants him to sign a £40,000 ($52,000) debt despite saying that he "knows very little about the loan that is owed." Preece said, "It's a debt that somebody else left with them years ago and I'm not willing to do it. That company closed down and as far as I'm concerned -- it's not my debt" (WALES ONLINE, 9/11).
