Finance Notes: Castleford Tigers Increase Turnover To £6M In '17

Super League side Castleford Tigers said that '17 was "financially the most successful year in the club's history." Turnover increased by £1.4M to £6M, "driven by increased gate receipts, sponsorship, record merchandise sales and record bar sales." The increase generated a record profit of £691,000 during a year when the Tigers finished first in the Super League and reached their first Grand Final. It was the fourth consecutive year the club has delivered an operating profit (YORKSHIRE EVENING POST, 9/3).

Super League side Warrington Wolves "made a small financial loss" during the '17 season. Books submitted by Warrington Sports Holdings on Aug. 20 showed that the club recorded a pre-tax loss of £67,684 last year. That compares to a loss of £262,708 during the '16 season -- the first time the club had recorded a financial deficit since '11 (WARRINGTON GUARDIAN, 9/4).

Cycling brand Rapha "launched a wave of job cuts" a little over a year after its "blockbuster" £200M sale to "scions of the Walmart empire." A redundancy program was announced earlier this week as part of an initiative to "reduce costs, and consolidate and strengthen our position" and put Rapha on the path toward "long-term profitable growth" (London TELEGRAPH, 9/6).
