Girona To Offer 1,500 Free Tickets For Expected Barcelona Match In Miami

With La Liga side Girona's January home match against Barcelona expected to be played in Miami, the club is reportedly "considering a number of interesting options" to appease its supporters, who are "understandably frustrated to lose out on a home fixture" against the reigning La Liga champion, according to MARCA. Girona will offer 1,500 free tickets to the game to season-ticket holders, "with a deposit to be paid before the trip, which will then be refunded after the game." Another option for those willing to travel is to "take advantage of a package deal that covers flights, weekend accommodation and a match ticket" for a cost of up to €600 ($695). For those members who do not want to travel to the U.S., "there are two alternative options to choose from." Girona is offering 5,000 free tickets to the team's match at Barcelona, which is scheduled for the end of September, as well as a 20% reduction on next year's season ticket. Lastly, the club is offering a 40% discount on season ticket prices for the '19-20 campaign for fans who attend neither the match in Miami nor the one in Barcelona (MARCA, 9/4).

'LACK OF RESPECT': REUTERS' Brian Homewood reported German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert "ruled out any chance of following La Liga’s example by staging matches abroad." He said that it would be a "lack of respect" to take games to places such as the U.S., as La Liga plans to do. He said, "We will never play a league game outside Germany. That's a line we will not cross. In my opinion, it would be a lack of respect of the fans and the players to take an official championship match abroad" (REUTERS, 9/4).
