League One side AFC Wimbledon confirmed it will "have to wait until midway through next season" to move into its new, £25M ($32M) stadium at Plough Lane, according to Giuseppe Muro of the London EVENING STANDARD. Building work cannot begin until the site of the old Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium is cleared and that phase of the project is "unlikely to be completed until October." That would give contractor Andrew Scott Ltd. less than a year to build the stadium in time for the start of the '19-20 season and construction is "not set to be completed until late" '19. Wimbledon will have to start next season at its current Kingsmeadow home, where it plays West Ham United in the English Football League Cup next Tuesday. Wimbledon has provisionally spoken with the EFL about the move and "will hold further talks when it becomes clearer when building work will begin." Club CEO Erik Samuelson said, "We are looking to move in next season. The exact date? We will see" (EVENING STANDARD, 8/23).
