European and American golfers will be protected by "a ring of steel" at next month’s Ryder Cup in Paris, according to Peter Allen of the London EVENING STANDARD. Security "will be tight" at Le Golf National, but should French President Emmanuel Macron and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump attend, "elite special forces will be on duty and mobile surface-to-air infrared missiles will also be deployed." Fears have been expressed that the Americans "might boycott the event in the light of terrorist atrocities carried out in France in recent years." France's elite counter-terrorism teams will be "on standby a couple of minutes away," a senior Paris security source said. The skies above the course "will be closed to air traffic, with the exception of registered helicopters and jets" (EVENING STANDARD, 8/23).
