Event Notes: Madrid Likely To Host New Davis Cup Format

Madrid is the "most likely candidate to host the new format of the Davis Cup," proposed by Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué. Although nothing has been made official, Piqué gave a verbal agreement to the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) that the final stage of the tournament, which will take place in February as of '19, would be hosted by Madrid for the first two years (AS, 8/21).

Rival agents "declared war" on player manager Craig Kelly over his plans to revolutionize the U18 TAC Cup. Kelly’s management and events company, TLA, is in discussions with the Australian Football League "over plans to overhaul the elite feeder competition" in a bid to maximize its commercial value. Agent Liam Pickering on Tuesday lashed the plan as a "horrible conflict of interest." Counterpart Peter Jess said that it "smacked of nepotism" and should be referred to the Australian Competition & Consumer Competition (HERALD SUN, 8/21).

Sanya, China, won the bid to host the 2020 Asian Beach Games. The event will be held from Nov. 28-Dec. 5. This will be the second time the Asian Beach Games will be held in China since it was inaugurated in '08 (YUTANG SPORTS, 8/20).
