Tottenham To Start Champions League Campaign At Wembley

Tottenham announced its first Champions League match this season will be played at Wembley Stadium, following delays to its new stadium, according to Luke Brown of the London INDEPENDENT. The club has delayed the opening of its new ground because of "issues with critical safety systems," having originally planned to play its first game at the stadium on Sept. 15 against Liverpool. That fixture has since been moved to Wembley, as has the club’s following home game against Cardiff City on Oct. 6. A venue for the Premier League game against Man City on Oct. 28 is "yet to be confirmed." Champions League rules stipulate that clubs should play all of their home games at one venue "in principle" -- although Tottenham appears to have negotiated a compromise. The club has meanwhile received "special dispensation" from the English Football League to reverse its first FA Cup match and play away should it be drawn at home in the third round (INDEPENDENT, 8/20).
