Franchise Notes: Chelsea Prioritizes Finding New Technical Dir

Chelsea hopes to "make progress on the appointment" of a new technical director to succeed Michael Emenalo once the transfer window closes across Europe at the end of the month. Emenalo "left his position last November and subsequently took up a similar role" at Ligue 1 side Monaco, with Marina Granovskaia "taking on his major responsibilities" at Stamford Bridge. She has "overseen the club’s incoming and outgoing transfers in the two windows since" (THE GUARDIAN, 8/15).

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust is "set to reject" Owner Stan Kroenke’s offer to buy out their members’ shares in the club and is "seeking legal advice to challenge the compulsory purchase aspect of his takeover." Takeover law dictates that Kroenke will "complete his sale regardless, so any move to reject his initial offer or mount a legal challenge will, in effect, only be a symbolic gesture." However, the AST believes it is possible it could "instigate a sufficient delay to put pressure on Kroenke to hold one final Annual General Meeting later in the year" (London EVENING STANDARD, 8/14).

National Rugby League side Manly Sea Eagles CEO Lyall Gorman "resorted to personally phoning club members" on Thursday in a "desperate bid" to help the Sea Eagles avoid a crowd of less than 5,000 for their final game at Brookvale. In the same week coach Trent Barrett "made it clear he no longer wanted to be at the club, fans are expected to follow suit and snub the 6pm clash against Gold Coast Titans" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/16).
