Event Notes: Serie A Postpones Two Matches In Genoa

Serie A confirmed the Sampdoria-Fiorentina and Milan-Genoa games were postponed "in light of the bridge collapse in Genoa." The Ponte Morandi collapsed on Tuesday, with 38 people confirmed dead. Both Genovese clubs asked not to play their games this weekend, and the entire first round of fixtures "could be delayed" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/16).

The Irish Rugby Football Union and the Welsh Rugby Union "joined forces" to create a new development competition -- The Celtic Cup -- for the "emerging professional players from the four Irish provinces and four Welsh regions." The competition "aims to provide a learning environment for players, coaches and referees" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 8/15).

The FIA World Rallycross Championship will postpone the introduction of electric cars until '21. The decision was made to allow time for all manufacturers investigating the possibility of competing to develop their plans. Manufacturers have until March 29 to confirm their commitment to the electric format (IMG).
