Media Notes: Sky Sport Secures Champions League, Europa League

Sky Sport secured the exclusive broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League for the next three years. It comes a day after Spark revealed it purchased the Premier League rights for the next three years starting next season. The announcement means Kiwi fans of top English teams would "need to buy subscriptions" to Sky and Spark to watch domestic and European football (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 8/15).

All Media Baltics rebranded its premium sports channel, Viasat Sport Baltic, as TVPlay Sports. Mediasat reported the channel will offer 3,200 hours of live broadcasts for the coming season, including the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/15).

German MTI Teleport selected Swedish media technology company Net Insight for the creation of a media network for pay-TV broadcaster Sky Austria. The new media network connects 12 football stadiums throughout Austria with Sky Austria’s premises and MTI Teleport’s network operation center for live coverage of Austrian Bundesliga games (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/14).
