Media Notes: BBC Wales Losing Rugby Pundits To Premier Sports

BBC Wales rugby commentators Eddie Butler, Martyn Williams and Shane Williams are "among a host of rugby pundits who are leaving" the network to join Premier Sports' Pro14 Rugby coverage. It emerged last week that Scrum V presenter Ross Harries and studio analyst Sean Holley are "on their way" to work for Premier Sports. BBC Wales has reportedly "yet to agree new radio rights" for the Pro14 (WALES ONLINE, 8/13).

Serie A side Juventus announced the launch of an "in-house" OTT platform. Juventus TV, which will replace the club's official TV channel, "will be available across smartphone, tablet and desktop devices at different price points." Club members can access the service for €2.99 ($3.41) per month or €14.99 ($17.10) annually, while non-members will be charged €3.99 ($4.55) per month or €19.99 ($22.80) for the year (SOCCEREX, 8/13).

Univision's coverage plans for the '18-19 UEFA Champions League "will include 97 games shown live on television," compared to Turner's 46 games that will air on TNT. The "substantial number of games" to be aired on TV by Univision also "carries over to the Europa League." Beginning in September, Univision Deportes will air "more than 70 Europa League games live on UDN, UniMás and Galavisión," compared to "just one Europa League game on TNT (the final)" (WORLD SOCCER TALK, 8/9).

The European Broadcasting Union and European Athletics announced the renewal of their worldwide media rights contract. This extension takes the partnership, which began in '81, through '27. The agreement covers the worldwide TV and radio rights for European Athletics' major events from '20-23 and from '24 -27 (EBU, 8/11).

Austrian commercial broadcaster Servus TV "will show motorsport series MotoGP live and exclusively in Germany and Austria" from '19. The races will be distributed free-to-air in HD quality. Financial details "were not disclosed" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/13).
