Sport Ireland Allocates €500,000 To Hockey Ireland

Ireland Minister for Sport Shane Ross announced Hockey Ireland will receive €500,000 ($569,800) of the €1.5M ($1.7M) funding he announced at the homecoming of the women's field hockey team following the Women's Hockey World Cup, according to RTÉ. The money will go to "both the women's and men's teams." Ross said that the fund will be spread across 17 organizations and is a separate fund to a €1.5M one confirmed in July. He also revealed that Horse Sport Ireland will get €175,000 ($199,400), the Olympic Council of Ireland €175,000 and the Paralympics €100,000 ($114,000). Ross said that the money "must be spent this year" and described the funding as a "prompt respond to great success" (RTÉ, 8/13). The IRISH TIMES reported the Ireland Department of Sport said that a further €250,000 ($284,900) in additional capital funding for high-performance equipment will be provided from savings in the Sports Capital Programme. It will be allocated to Rowing Ireland and the Irish Sailing Association's high-performance programs. The Irish Sailing Association will be allocated €160,000 ($182,300) and Rowing Ireland will be allocated €90,000 ($102,600). The department "directed that the process for allocation of this funding be expedited" (IRISH TIMES, 8/13).
