Franchise Notes: Brisbane Broncos Players Believe Coach Will Be Fired

National Rugby League Brisbane Broncos players believe Manager Wayne Bennett will be sacked at the end of this season in a move that "threatens to see several big-name Broncos follow the super coach out of Red Hill." Bennett’s termination could be accelerated by 12 months "amid concerns the constant innuendo has created a political powder keg that could tear the club apart if the speculation spills into next season." Broncos Chair Karl Morris and CEO Paul White have "ostensibly decided Bennett will not receive another contract in their quest for a fresh era at Red Hill" (Brisbane COURIER-MAIL, 8/11).

Newly-promoted Parma will start the new season on a "level footing" with the rest of Serie A "after a five-point penalty was overturned and replaced with a fine." The sanction was originally imposed in July by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) after it concluded Parma forward Emanuele Calaio sent "suspicious" messages to Spezia players last term (OMNI, 8/9).
