Football Notes: Ghanaian FA Battles To Avoid Being Dissolved

Ghanaian football execs are reportedly "challenging attempts by the authorities to dissolve" the Ghana FA. Football activities halted in the West African nation on the instructions of the Attorney General after Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi "was embroiled in a bribery scandal and pictured taking $65,000 from an undercover reporter pretending to be a businessman." Nyantaki was suspended for 90 days by FIFA, "but no ruling has yet been made about government interference in the affairs of the federation" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 8/8).

Superleague Greece will kick off as scheduled on Aug. 25 after Greece Deputy Sports Minister Giorgos Vassiliadis reached a deal with the seven teams that had been left without TV coverage. The teams -- Panathinaikos, Aris, Atromitos, Panaitolikos, Xanthi, Apollon Smyrnis and Lamia -- agreed on a two-year deal with state broadcaster ERT regarding coverage of their games. The deal is worth €17M ($19.75M) for the year (EKATHIMERINI, 8/8).

The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) released a statement on Wednesday to announce it is negotiating the first women's collective bargaining agreement in Europe. The AFE said, "It is the AFE's intention that the agreement take effect during the present season" (AS, 8/8).
