AFL To Freeze Ticket Prices For Grand Final

The Australian Football League will "freeze prices for all bottom-tier tickets at every ground in September -- including for the Grand Final," according to Jon Ralph of the HERALD SUN. The cheapest ticket prices will remain at A$35 ($26.03) for the first two weeks of the finals, A$65 ($48.34) for the preliminary final and A$180 ($133.86) for the Grand Final. But the prices for mid-tier seating tickets, "including some Grand Final tickets," will increase by 1.5%. AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said on Wednesday that the Grand Final is "without doubt one of the premier events on the global sporting calendar" and prices of its tickets "stacked up when compared with those of other big world sporting events," such as the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals in the U.S. The league will not say "exactly how many tickets are in each price bracket," but McLachlan said on Wednesday that the league is honoring "its promise to keep ticket prices as low as possible" (HERALD SUN, 8/8).
