Retired Mexican footballer RAFAEL MÁRQUEZ will become the sporting president of Liga MX side Atlas. Club President GUSTAVO GUZMÁN announced the hire on Monday (AS, 8/6). ... Former Scottish Premiership side Celtic player BRIAN MCLAUGHLIN was appointed as the Scottish FA's new performance school manager. McLaughlin, 44, "doubles up" as the organization's national youth team coach, working with the Scotland U17 side. He will oversee the performance school program covering seven schools, which have supported the development of Scotland's top young talent since '12 (BBC, 8/6). ... Discovery announced PETER FARICY will join the company in the newly-created role of CEO, global direct-to-consumer, overseeing Discovery's global digital and direct-to-consumer businesses. Faricy will report to Discovery President & CEO DAVID ZASLAV (Discovery). 

COACHES/MANAGERS: National Rugby League side Penrith sacked coach ANTHONY GRIFFIN "just four weeks out from the NRL finals" despite the club being in the NRL premiership hunt. It is believed Griffin's relationship with the playing group "badly deteriorated this year and the club no longer believed he was capable" of delivering a title. Assistant coach CAMERON CIRALDO will take charge for the rest of the season on a caretaker basis (STUFF, 8/7).
