Facility Notes: Millwall To Propose Redevelopment Plan For The Den

Millwall CEO Steve Kavanagh said that The Den does not meet EPL requirements.GETTY IMAGES

League Championship side Millwall will propose a plan to redevelop The Den and the area surrounding it following a "long-running dispute with the local council." A compulsory purchase order for land around the ground was dropped by Lewisham Council in Jan. '17. Millwall appointed architects to draw up plans to build on that land to house its community program. The club said that it would "never be able to be promoted to the Premier League" unless it has that space (BBC, 8/6).

A major new concert venue "could be built in west London to regenerate a sports stadium."  Documents revealed "an event/performance venue is being considered" for the Linford Christie Outdoor Sports Centre. Sources said that it "could have a capacity of 13,000." This would be "slightly larger" than the SSE Arena in Wembley but smaller than The O2 Arena (London EVENING STANDARD, 8/6).
