FA Rules Out Making A Bid If Qatar Is Stripped Of 2022 WC

The FA "categorically ruled out stepping in" to host the World Cup in '22 "if Qatar is stripped of the tournament, out of respect" for FIFA's policy of rotating between the confederations, according to Miguel Delaney of the London INDEPENDENT. The Asian Football Confederation is "supposed to" host the event in '22 (London INDEPENDENT, 8/1). In London, Julian Bennetts reported former FA Chair David Triesman claimed this week that England "should be considered" if the Qatar bid team is found to have broken FIFA rules. FA Chair Greg Clarke said that the FA is not considering hosting the World Cup until '30. Clarke: "Anyone suggesting otherwise is acting disrespectfully to our global game and does not speak for the English FA" (TELEGRAPH, 8/1).
