Barcelona Innovation Hub, NFL 49ers Collaborate In California

As part of Barcelona's Int'l Champions Cup tour, the Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB) organized a forum on innovation and sports. The event, in which the NFL San Francisco 49ers collaborated, was held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. The club delegation was headed by Barcelona Vice-Chair Jordi Cardoner. This was followed by two roundtable discussions. The first was titled "Implementing Innovation in Sports." The second roundtable was "The Future World and The Role of Sport." Former Marine and NFL exec and coach Steve Gera moderated the event (Barcelona). MARCA's Xavi Hernández reported a visit to Facebook's HQ in Menlo Park, Calif., is scheduled for Barcelona on Friday. A club delegation is also due at Rakuten's research center in Silicon Valley (MARCA, 8/2).

WAITING IN THE WINGS: PALCO23's Marc Menchén reported Barcelona is expecting its women's team that will compete in the U.S. "will not debut" until '20, sources said. Under the initial project, the goal was for the team to launch in the National Women's Soccer League this year (PALCO23, 7/31). Barcelona declined a request for comment (Tyler Everett, SBD Global).
