League Notes: Aussie Athletes Fear Being Shamed Over Drug Tests

Australian professional footballers and athletes screened for illicit drugs such as cocaine and "ice" will "fight a push" to make positive tests available to a proposed new anti-corruption watchdog responsible for protecting the integrity of Australian sport. A government-commissioned review "wants a proposed, powerful new body," the National Sports Integrity Commission, to have access to positive test results (THE AUSTRALIAN, 8/2).

A senior Kenyan athletics official said that doping is a "global menace" and there should be no discrimination in the "tough new anti-doping rules" announced by the IAAF at its council meeting in Buenos Aires last week. Under the rules approved by the IAAF, Kenyan athletes will be among those required to have at least three out-of-competition doping tests in the 10 months before a world championships or Olympics (REUTERS, 7/30).

Renault Motorsports is "planning to scrap" its current Eurocup single-seater category and transfer under FIA's new Regional Formula 3 umbrella for '19. The move would mean the end of the Formula Renault Eurocup name after 28 years. It is the "latest development in a European single-seater scene that has been thrown into volatility at every level between Formula 2 and FIA Formula 4" (MOTORSPORT, 8/1).
