Football Notes: Several Being Probed At NZF After Heraf's Resignation

While many at New Zealand Football "probably hoped" that the resignation of "controversial" Football Ferns coach and NZF Technical Dir Andreas Heraf "would bring a sad and damaging chapter to a close," it will not be the case. In fact, "it might just be the beginning." Several other people who "worked with Heraf in the Football Ferns environment" will reportedly also "come under close scrutiny in the current investigation" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 8/1).

ACT League Capital Football will introduce a National Premier League 2 next season, "with one team to be relegated from the premier league in the first season." The NPL2 will be brought in for first-grade and U20 and "it is understood seven teams will form the second division competition in the first year" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/1).

Sierra Leone national football team coach John Keister said that his country's lack of a domestic league is "hampering his preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers." There has been no league football in Sierra Leone for the last four years, "largely due to internal wrangling" within the Sierra Leone FA. Keister said, "It's very hard to prepare a team when there is no league" (BBC, 7/31).
