Football Notes: Scottish FA Sued Over Alleged Abuse

A group of people who were abused as children are "taking legal action" against the Scottish FA. The people said that they were "abused by coaches or referees in the Scottish game." Janine Rennie of survivors charity Wellbeing Scotland said, "The beginning of civil legal proceedings against the Scottish Football Association by survivors is their absolute right and is an important part of them claiming some measure of justice they have long been denied." The legal action is being pursued through Thompsons Solicitors (BBC, 7/30).

FIFPro said that at least 15 World Cup players have taken part in UEFA club competitions less than four weeks after returning from Russia, leaving them "without a sufficient close season break." The union "reiterated its call for a mandatory rest period of at least four weeks" between the final game of one season and the start of preseason training for the next (REUTERS, 7/30).

The FA announced it "intends to permanently enforce temporary dismissals" -- more commonly known as "sin bins" -- at the grassroots level of the game from the '19-20 season. Last year, the Int'l FA Board offered National Associations the ability to implement changes in rules at the grassroots level. Since then, the FA has been "piloting the temporary dismissal scheme across 31 leagues in the country" (London INDEPENDENT, 7/30).
