Facility Notes: Napoli President Hints At New Stadium

Serie A side Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis dropped "some hints over where a new stadium could be built." The club currently rents the Stadio San Paolo from the city council. De Laurentiis has described it as "a toilet" and insisted that "rather than buying" the old ground, "they should give it to me for free." De Laurentiis wants to build a 20,000-seat luxury stadium (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 7/19).

The Bathurst Regional Council confirmed Apex Circuit Design was awarded the tender for the new permanent circuit at Mount Panorama. The U.K.-based firm was chosen from a shortlist of three companies vying to design the 4.5km permanent circuit, which is set to be built alongside the "famous" 6.2km Mount Panorama track. Dubbed Velocity Park, the new circuit is set to host FIA and FIM-level events "not suited to the traditional semi-permanent Bathurst layout" (MOTORSPORT, 7/18).

The city of Madrid on Thursday approved a plan to demolish the Vicente Calderón -- the former home of La Liga side Atlético Madrid -- and convert it into an urbanized zone featuring housing and other uses (EFE, 7/19).
