Event Notes: Decision On Miami F1 Race Delayed Until September

A decision on Formula 1's planned Miami Grand Prix "has been delayed until September to allow the city to consider more input from residents." A discussion and vote on the race "had been scheduled for July 26." But "a final decision has now been delayed, with an August summer recess pushing it back further." City Manager Emilio Gonzalez said, "We want to make sure we do this right. It's a big event" (MOTORSPORT, 7/19).

England’s bid to regain the Ashes next year will begin with a test against Australia at Edgbaston, the England & Wales Cricket Board announced on Thursday. Edgbaston, where England is unbeaten since '09, will get the five-test series underway from Aug. 1-5, with matches following at Lord’s, Headingley, Old Trafford and The Oval. England is also scheduled to meet Ireland at Lord’s in a four-day test from July 24-27, its first test of fewer than five days since the tour of New Zealand in '71 (REUTERS, 7/19).

Premiership Rugby club Northampton Saints will move its East Midlands derby against Leicester Tigers in round six of the upcoming season to Twickenham to "help raise funds for recently-retired" Rob Horne. The 28-year-old Australian "suffered life-changing nerve damage to his right arm" in a tackle during Northampton’s game at Leicester last season (London INDEPENDENT, 7/17).

There will be "no six-ball overs in the 100-balls-a-side cricket tournament" to be introduced in '20. In the "radical" new format, 10 balls will be bowled from one end, followed by 10 from the other -- "with nine changes of end in an innings." Each bowler can bowl up to 20 balls in total but the 10 balls from each end "can be bowled either by one bowler or two bowling five each -- and it will be for the captain to decide" (LONDON TIMES, 7/19).
