Tokyo 2020 Officials Claim Venue Construction Is On Schedule

Tokyo 2020 organizing committee officials insisted that the newly-constructed venues for the Games are "about" 20-40% completed and "just about on schedule," according to Hiroshi Ikezawa of the JAPAN TIMES. The execs on Tuesday led a media tour of venues in the Tokyo Bay area, including the Canoe Slalom Course, Sea Forest Waterway, Ariake Arena, Olympic Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Village. All those venues as well as the Seaside Park Hockey Stadium, Dream Island Archery Field, Ariake Tennis Park and Musashino Forest Sport Plaza are newly-constructed or renewed for the 2020 Tokyo Games. Musashino Forest Sport Plaza is the only completed venue "and has already hosted several sports events." Newly open to the media was the Olympic Village, which will have 21 flat-type buildings and provide 18,000 beds for the Olympics as well as 8,000 for the Paralympics (JAPAN TIMES, 7/17).
