Liverpool Confirms Plans For First Team, Academy Training Campus

Liverpool confirmed it will "create a major new first team and academy training campus," according to Liam Thorp of the LIVERPOOL ECHO. The club announced it will continue with the £50M ($65.6M) redevelopment of its academy site in Kirkby and the neighboring Eddie McArdle community playing fields. The club's first-team and academy football training operations and facilities will "come together on one site in a new training campus" as a result of the project. The new 9,200-square-meter training center on Liverpool's academy site will create a combined first-team and U23 academy facility, each of which has its "own identity," along with new first-team pitches and parking within the site. The facilities will incorporate two gyms, a full-size sports hall, pool, hydrotherapy complex and specialist sports rehabilitation suites. There will also be "dedicated TV studios, press conference facilities and office accommodation." The club appointed building and civil engineering firm McLaughlin & Harvey "to deliver the project" (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 7/17).
