Limerick Players To Consider Strike Following Similar Action By Bray

League of Ireland Premier Division side Limerick players "will ballot for strike action on Tuesday" as a second League of Ireland club prepares to "take the measure over unpaid wages," according to RTÉ. Bray Wanderers players "already voted to strike" and put their match with Cork City on July 27 "in jeopardy." The Wanderers' players "have not been paid since the end of May." Limerick Owner Pat O'Sullivan "appealed for investment at the start of this year or to sell all his shares in the club," saying that he "was no longer in a position to fund the Super Blues." He added that there is "a financial gap in building the bridge between producing local players and taking Limerick team into European club competition of typically €500,000 ($661,600) per annum on the basis of the income and expenditure structures at the moment" (RTÉ, 7/16). RTÉ also reported Bray Wanderers players were not paid by Monday's 5pm deadline imposed by the FA of Ireland. FAI Dir of Competitions Fran Gavin said that he was given "commitments" from Bray Wanderers officials that the team would pay its players by Monday afternoon. He added that the governing body of the league "would begin a process of imposing sanctions on the club if wages were not placed in bank accounts" (RTÉ, 7/16).
