Cricket Australia Considering Charging For Women's BBL Games

Cricket Australia will "mull starting to charge for entry at Women’s Big Bash League matches" as the competition moves toward a "standalone window," according to Daniel Cherny of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. The fixtures for the fourth season of the WBBL were released on Monday, with the competition "beginning to move from the shadow of older brother BBL by playing a standalone final on Australia Day." Just as is the case in the Australian Football League Women's, entry "remains free for standalone WBBL games," with CA "keen to make the women's game as accessible as possible." However, Big Bash League CEO Kim McConnie said that CA "would continue to look at the pricing of games." McConnie: "It’s interesting. We sort of debate that to say, actually if you charge, do people feel like they have more skin in the game? What I can say is WBBL will always be affordable. Affordability is really important. But we are getting a bit of feedback, even from fans, saying, 'You know what, because it's free I don't have a commitment.' If it was A$5 ($3.71), it's something" (SMH, 7/16).
