Shanghai District To Build Esports Industrial Park

China’s esport industry is "taking a massive step to accommodate spectators and businesses," home and abroad, according to Graham Ashton of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. The Minhang District of Shanghai will reportedly begin work on an esports industrial park, a co-venture with games company Tencent and Guangdong-based land developer Super Generation Investment. The “Shanghai International New Cultural and Creative E-sports Center,” as it will be known, is scheduled to begin use by '20. It will be divided into eight zones, "covering not just esports functions, but also game research and development, as well as film/television production." According to local media reports, the park is "looking to invite" 100 domestic and int'l esports companies. Minhang District Deputy Head Wu Bin said that its "first deliverable project" will be a 6,000-seat spectator esports arena (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 7/12).
