League Notes: Weightlifters 'Shocked' By Weight Class Changes

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Emily Muskett said that the world's leading weightlifters are "shocked" by dramatic changes to weight classes in the sport. The Int'l Weightlifting Federation revised all 14 divisions for Tokyo 2020 and added six new weight classes for other events. The 28-year-old usually competes at 69kg, and will now have to either lose weight to compete at 64kg or gain it for the 76kg division (BBC, 7/10). 

New Zealand's women football players prefer a "family fun culture" to high standards and professionalism, according to suspended Football Ferns coach Andreas Heraf. Speaking for the first time since being placed on special leave following 13 complaints about him from players, Heraf told Austrian newspaper Der Standard that they "opposed his style." He said, "The players oppose my European style, with high standards and high expectations of professionalism, and prefer a fun and family culture with a focus on making fun videos and opening up to social networking" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 7/10).

South and North Korea requested the Olympic Council of Asia to allow use of a unification flag showing the South's eastern islets of Dokdo during the upcoming Asian Games, South Korean Olympic & Sport Committee CEO Lee Kee-heung said Tuesday. Dokdo has "long been" a "source of tension" between South Korea and Japan (YONHAP, 7/10).
