Rangers Chair Claims Takeover Panel Is 'Bullying' Him

Scottish Premiership side Rangers Chair Dave King said that a move by the Takeover Panel to initiate contempt of court proceedings against him is "bullying," according to Alasdair Lamont of the BBC. A document released by the independent body on Wednesday indicated that papers were served on King last month. King is yet to make an offer to club shareholders of 20p a share, as ordered by the Court of Session in December. King said, "The TP (Takeover Panel) know that I live in South Africa and that it will require exchange control approval to move the funds to London. They are just bullying me but that is nothing new since my involvement with Rangers. I will continue to proceed in the best interest of the club and its supporters" (BBC, 7/5).

'STAND DOWN': The BBC reported Rangers called for Scottish Professional Football League Chair Murdoch MacLennan to leave his post. The SPFL previously rejected the club's calls for MacLennan to be suspended over alleged business links to Celtic shareholders. Rangers said that the SPFL "should have agreed to an independent investigation into the issue." The club said, "Rangers is left with no alternative but to call for Mr MacLennan to stand down" (BBC, 7/7).
