The feud between Scottish Premiership side Rangers Chair DAVE KING and the Takeover Panel escalated, with a decision of its hearings committee "indicating that contempt proceedings have been raised" against King. In December, the Court of Session ordered King to make an offer to Rangers shareholders of 20p a share. King failed in an appeal against that decision and also failed to persuade the Takeover Panel to "allow him more time to make the offer" (BBC, 7/4). ... Australian JOHN MILLMAN became the "first reported victim" of Wimbledon's dress code at the 2018 Championships. Millman said that he was warming up for his match with No. 13 seed MILOS RAONIC when tournament officials "informed him his colourful undies were a violation of the All England Club’s all-white dress policy" (AFP, 7/5). ... Cricket Australia denied reports that former Australia captain STEVE SMITH and batsman DAVID WARNER’s suspensions had been "relaxed to allow them to participate in domestic first-class cricket ahead of the 2019 World Cup." A CA spokesperson said, "At no stage have we, or are we considering lessening the current sanctions in place for respective players in relation to the incident in South Africa" (REUTERS, 7/5). ... Toronto-based marketing firm MKTG Canada promoted MATTHEW KLAR to VP/strategy (MKTG Canada). ... French heavyweight boxer TONY YOKA was banned for a year "for breaking anti-doping rules," his lawyer, ARNAUD PERICARD, said on Thursday, adding that the Olympic champion "plans to appeal." Pericard said that the French anti-doping agency (AFLD) "has heavily punished something they recognized themselves was nothing more than administrative negligence" (AFP, 7/5). ... Lottery winner and Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle supporter COLIN WEIR donated a further £600,000 ($792,950) to the club's academy. Weir and wife CHRISTINE won £161M on the Euromillions in '11 and contributed £750,000 to fund the academy's creation two years later (BBC, 7/4).
