Facility Notes: Millwall Appoints AFL Architects

League Championship side Millwall appointed Manchester-based AFL Architects "to lead its latest attempts to expand the stadium." The club will work with AFL on a planning application for The Den to be submitted later this year. Millwall said that its latest expansion plans would "build on the unique atmosphere of The Den by adding substantial further spectator capacity with supporting leisure and commercial facilities to optimise the fan experience" (THE ARCHITECTS' JOURNAL, 7/5).

Queensland Rugby League Chair Bruce Hatcher "rejected criticism of a stand at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium being named after former state Labor politician Terry Mackenroth." Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was "forced to defend her unilateral decision" to name the eastern stand after Mackenroth, who died in April. Opposition leader Deb Frecklington on Wednesday "slammed the decision" as "out of touch" and "inappropriate," saying that the accolade "should be given to a Queensland sporting great instead" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 7/5).
