Surfer KELLY SLATER will end his "glittering career" after the '19 world tour. The 11-time world champion made the announcement at the World Surf League championship at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, where he made his return this week after suffering a foot injury in the event last year. He said, "My basic plan is to get myself really healthy, again, and get ready for April next year. And next year will be my last year on tour -- and just be done with it" (AAP, 7/2). ... British tennis player NAOMI BROADY is "prepared to sacrifice the chance to play" at Tokyo 2020 "to maintain her longstanding refusal to represent her country in the Fed Cup." The governing body cut her funding and support after pictures emerged of her "provocatively posing next to a condom machine during a night out." Triathlete and Ironman champion TERENZO BOZZONE was "seriously injured after being hit by a truck." Bozzone was cycling in Auckland, New Zealand, when he was hit just after 2pm on Tuesday. Former EPL side Newcastle United coaching assistant GEORGE ORMOND was found guilty of "committing 36 counts of sexual abuse against 18 victims over a 24-year period" from '73-97.
