Franchise Notes: Birmingham City Ladies Change Name

Women's Super League side Birmingham City Ladies changed its name to Birmingham City Women. The club called the alteration "an important and progressive step." It is the third top-tier side to make the switch in the last year, following Arsenal and Chelsea (BBC, 7/3).

National Rugby League side New Zealand Warriors' crowd numbers are"already up significantly" on previous seasons and if the team's next home game sells out, it will mean a "financial windfall for four charities." If the game sells out at Mt. Smart Stadium when the Warriors play the Melbourne Storm on July 22, the club will donate NZ$50,000 ($33,755) "out of its own pocket" to be split between KidsCan, Paralympics New Zealand, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Shine (STUFF, 7/3).

Spanish football club Málaga, which was relegated to the second division for '18-19, will reportedly receive a €19.3M ($22.5M) parachute payment from La Liga "as compensation for dropping after a decade in La Liga." The other two clubs that were relegated from La Liga -- Deportivo La Coruña and Las Palmas -- will receive €13M ($15.1M) and €11M ($12.8M), respectively (MARCA, 7/3).
