Egypt int'l MOHAMED SALAH re-signed with Liverpool through '23, with no release clause in his new contract. The '17-18 EPL player of the season, who has scored 44 goals in 52 appearances for Liverpool, was the top scorer in the EPL last season -- netting 32 goals (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 7/2). ... Australian surfer JOEL PARKINSON announced he will retire from competition, saying that "he no longer wants to win." The 37-year-old Queenslander will compete for the last time at the season-ending Pipe Masters in Hawaii -- the same event where he "narrowly sealed" his '12 world title. Parkinson said, "I love everything about it, but I just can't keep competing" (THE AGE, 7/2). ... WAYNE ROONEY is "up and running" with Major League Soccer side DC United after completing his first training session with his new teammates. He posted several pictures of the session on his Instagram on Monday as "he settles into his new surroundings" in the U.S. (London DAILY MAIL, 7/2).
