Bayern Munich President Vetoes Plans To Enter Esports

Fans' hopes of Bayern Munich entering esports "in a big way anytime soon are off the table," according to Thiemo Bräutigam of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. Club President Uli Hoeneß vetoed "already advanced" plans to enter "multiple popular and upcoming esports titles," according to Bild. Up to €5M ($5.8M) of investment was reportedly "planned to buy star-studded rosters" in League of Legends, Dota 2 and Fortnite. In Hoeneß' view, there is "no match" between esports and Bayern Munich (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 6/22).

SCHALKE 04: Konami Digital Entertainment announced in conjunction with eFootball.Pro that Bundesliga side Schalke 04 will join the esports competition that the two companies are creating. The club is the second football team to announce its participation in the league, after Barcelona's announcement in February (Konami).

NEW PARTNERSHIP: THE ESPORTS OBSERVER's Trent Murray reported Riot Games announced a partnership for the European League of Legends Championship Series with DXRacer. As part of the sponsorship, the gaming chair brand will develop custom EU LCS-branded chairs for use during all Summer Split matches, which will be made available for purchase by LCS fans in the future (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 6/22).
