League Notes: Team Sky Responds To Hinault's Call For Strike

Team Sky said that five-time Tour de France champion Bernard Hinault's call for riders to strike in this year's race in protest against Chris Froome is "irresponsible and ill-informed." Froome "returned an adverse drugs test" during last year's Vuelta a España win. Team Sky said that it was "disappointing" Hinault "repeated factually incorrect comments about a case he clearly does not understand." Hinault said, "The peloton should dismount and go on strike saying, 'If he's at the start, we're not starting!'" (BBC, 6/21).

Cricket ACT and the ACT government are "in talks to renew" their four-year deal with Cricket Australia to ensure Canberra's "historic" first test this summer is not a "one-off." The test between Australia and Sri Lanka from Feb. 1-5 will be be the final installment of a four-year deal between the ACT government and CA to host men's int'l matches at Manuka Oval. Cricket ACT Chair John Miller confirmed negotiations are "ongoing" to keep int'l cricket in the capital past this summer (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/21).

Winning athletes "love to bite their medals and smile for the cameras as they hold their trophies aloft," but their teeth "may actually be holding them back." Around half of Britain's elite athletes have "dental problems bad enough to affect their performance," according to a study published on Thursday. Researchers at University College London found "high levels of gum disease and other oral health problems among athletes including rowers, rugby players and swimmers" (REUTERS, 6/21).

London Sport was appointed by U.K.-based charity the Tennis Foundation to undertake new analysis to highlight opportunities to increase disability tennis participation across 21 local authority areas in the south, east and northeast of London (London Sport).
