League Notes: AIFF Eliminates Asian Player Rule From '19-20

Including an Asian among their six foreign players "will not be binding" on I-League clubs in the next domestic season, the All India Football Federation said on Wednesday "while putting the cap" on the number of overseas players at five from '19-20. According to earlier regulations, it was mandatory for I-League clubs "to include an Asian among the foreign players" (PTI, 6/20).

The Australian Football League told clubs that Indigenous communities and elders in Western Australia and South Australia "have complained that they have been discriminated against" as the league considers major changes to its academy system. Clubs believe that the AFL is "seriously looking at adopting a proposal" to have the Next Generation Academy's Indigenous and multicultural players available to all clubs in the first 25 or 30 positions in the national draft "in a trade-off for the WA and SA teams gaining access to their entire states" (THE AGE, 6/20).

The National Assembly of Quebec unanimously approved a private bill to legally protect WADA in its mission to lead a worldwide movement for doping-free sport. Private Bill 238 provides civil jurisdiction immunity for decisions taken by the organization (WADA).
